POETRY SCREENS AT ONF, SATURDAY MARCH 10 AT 6:00PM

This Saturday AmerAsia is pleased to announce the screening film by South Korean auteur Lee Chang-dong, Poetry!

In Poetry the veteran actress Yun Jung-hee plays Mija, a suburban woman in her sixties whose days follow a repetitive, quotidian path. She earns her living working as a housekeeper for an elderly man and takes care of her unappreciative grandson, two activities which fill her time. Despite being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, Mija decides to take a poetry class at the local cultural centre and embarks on a personal journey to truly see the world around her. Her enthusiasm is challenged by the discovery that her grandson has been involved in a monstrous crime, and Mija must struggle to come to terms with horror of this event, her own illness, and the demands of justice.

A former teacher and acclaimed novelist, Lee Chang-dong entered into the film industry at 40 years old to direct his first feature, Green Fish (1997), which brought Lee immediate renown. In addition to receiving countless awards, both at home and internationally, Lee has also served as Minister of Culture and Tourism in South Korea.
